Alakrekonstrukció, meaning shape reconstruction, is a process in computer vision and computer graphics focused on inferring the three-dimensional shape of an object from various forms of input data. This input can range from a single two-dimensional image to multiple views, depth sensor readings, or even motion capture data. The primary goal is to generate a digital representation of the object's geometry, which can then be used for a wide array of applications.

One common approach involves using a single image. This is a challenging task as a 2D image inherently lacks depth information. Techniques often rely on learned models, photometric cues, or prior knowledge about the object category. For instance, if the system knows the object is a chair, it can leverage pre-existing knowledge of chair structures to infer the unseen parts.

When multiple images are available, stereo vision or Structure from Motion (SfM) techniques become applicable. Stereo vision uses the disparity between two images taken from slightly different viewpoints to calculate depth. SfM, on the other hand, reconstructs both the 3D structure of the scene and the camera poses that captured the images, often by tracking feature points across frames.

Depth sensors, such as LiDAR or structured light scanners, provide direct depth measurements, making reconstruction more straightforward. However, these sensors can have limitations in terms of resolution, range, or environmental conditions.
