aktuaalisuuteen

Aktuaalisuus is a Finnish term referring to the state or process of becoming actual, that is, the realization or bringing into existence of something that previously existed only as potential. The illative form aktuaalisuuteen is used to indicate movement toward or entry into actuality in a sentence, for example when describing a process that progresses from possibility to concrete reality.

Etymology and scope. The word stems from Latin actualitas and enters Finnish through the common philosophical vocabulary, often via the root aktuaali-. In Finnish discourse, aktuaalisuus is most closely associated with the philosophical distinction between potentiality and actuality, but it is also used more broadly to describe how plans, ideas, identities, or structures are realized in practice.

Philosophical context. In metaphysics, aktuaalisuus denotes the realization of potentialities into actual states or events. The concept is linked to debates about causation, agency, and determinism, and it appears in discussions of action theory, epistemology, and phenomenology. In technical fields, more specialized Finnish terms such as aktuointi or aktuaatio are often preferred to refer specifically to actuation or execution by devices, whereas aktuaalisuus tends to emphasize the broader notion of realization or becoming actual.
