Aktiekursen is the price at which a company's shares are traded on a public market at a given moment. In Danish and Norwegian usage, it refers to the current market price of a stock.

Prices are quoted in currency per share and include several related figures: the last price, the bid (highest price buyers are willing to pay), and the ask or offer (lowest price sellers are willing to accept). Opening and closing prices, as well as intraday highs and lows, are also tracked.

Price formation, or price discovery, arises from the interaction of buyers and sellers in an order-driven market. The order book, matching engine, and liquidity providers determine how orders are matched and at what price trades execute.

Stock prices come from exchanges or liquidity venues and are distributed by data vendors. Real-time quotes are often complemented by after-hours trading, which can differ from regular-session prices due to lower liquidity.

Movements in aktiekursen are influenced by company fundamentals (earnings, guidance, dividends), macroeconomic data (growth, inflation, interest rates), and news events (acquisitions, regulatory changes). Market sentiment and speculative activity can amplify short-term swings.

Prices have limitations as measures of value. They reflect current consensus under prevailing liquidity and information, and may diverge from intrinsic value. Liquidity, market structure, and data quality can also affect observed prices.

Investors use stock prices to assess performance, compute returns, and compare companies. In long horizons, price changes are combined with dividends and corporate actions to gauge total return.
