Ajokorttijärjestelmä refers to the system used in Finland to organize and identify vehicle owners. At its core, the system is based on a unique series of numbers and letters assigned to each driver, which is printed on an ID card known as the ajokortti.

The ajokortti, also known as the driving license, serves as identification proof for the driver and holds essential information such as the driver's name, date of birth, nationality, and address. The card includes photos of the holder, and it features the industrial design of the Finnish economy, using the castle of Olavinlinna and other national landmarks.

In addition to serving as proof of identity, the ajokorttijärjestelmä plays a significant role in verifying the holder's qualifications to operate vehicles, including both personal and commercial vehicles. The organization is managed by the Poliisi, which is responsible for maintaining accurate records, detecting potential driving unqualified individuals and fighting discrimination.

The ajokorttijärjestelmä was created to comply with international regulations, requiring states to obtain and share personal data to fight terrorism. One of the functions of the Finnish ajokortti is to issue an employee card, primarily between countries in the European Union, under the directive 2009/50/EC.
