Afbødningsprocedurer, or inflection procedures, are the rules that govern how words take inflected forms from a base form (lemma). They describe how nouns, adjectives, pronouns, and verbs change to express grammatical categories such as number, gender, case, definiteness, tense, mood, aspect, and person.

These procedures are often organized into paradigms or declension/conjugation classes, with each class defining a set of endings or stem changes. They distinguish productive (regular) inflection from irregular inflection, which requires exceptional forms. In many languages, inflection also involves agreement between words, such as adjectives agreeing with the nouns they modify in gender and number.

Afbødningsprocedurer can involve suffixation, prefixation, internal stem changes (including vowel alternations), consonant mutations, and suppletion where forms are etymologically unrelated to the base.
