Adatcsomag is a structured collection of data intended to be distributed and used as a single unit. It typically consists of data files accompanied by metadata that describes the contents, provenance, and usage rights. The term is often used as a Hungarian rendering of the English concept “data package,” and it is employed in data exchange, open data publishing, and reproducible research.

Most adatcsomag comprises one or more data files (for example CSV, JSON, XML, or Parquet) and a manifest file that describes the resources. The manifest is commonly named datapackage.json in the Data Package framework and lists resources, fields such as title, description, licensing, sources, and data schemas. Additional documents such as README or license text may accompany the package.

To facilitate distribution, an adatcsomag is often packaged as a compressed archive such as ZIP or TAR. The descriptor and resources may reside in a directory structure that can be validated against a schema, enabling automated checking of data quality, schemas, and relationships.

Adatcsomagok are used in open data portals, research repositories, and data catalogs to enable interoperability and reusability. The Data Package specification, originally developed by Frictionless Data, provides a lightweight, language-agnostic standard for describing and validating data resources, though many ecosystems implement their own variations.
