ablakát

Ablakát is a fictional concept used in Hungarian-language speculative fiction and role-playing games to describe a portable, window-like device that offers glimpses of distant places, times, or possible futures. The name is a coined term built from ablak (window) with the definite-object suffix -át, treated in-fiction as a proper noun.

In most depictions, an ablaktát consists of a small frame with a translucent pane that can be pointed at a target scene. When activated, it projects an image or sequence of images onto the pane, which the user experiences as if looking through a window. The content can range from real landscapes to imagined realms, and the user’s proximity to the pane, focus, and ambient conditions may influence clarity or detail. Some versions require a power source, ritual, or skill to operate, while others function as a purely magical or technomagical device.

Context and reception: Ablakát is used as a storytelling device to explore themes of distance, observation, consent, and the ethics of seeing. It appears in short stories, game supplements, and multimedia experiments, especially in contemporary Hungarian fiction and fan media. It is not a recognized real-world technology.
