aandraa

Aandraa is a traditional communal performance described in the fictional ethnographic records of the people of Dharun on the continent of Nyara. It combines singing, dance, and storytelling, and is performed in village squares during the late monsoon season.

The term aandraa derives from the Aandar language and is commonly interpreted as "binding" or "togetherness."

First attested in inscriptions from the 9th century in Dharun, though oral variants likely existed earlier.

A performance unfolds in cycles. A chorus of singers (the oon) tells ancestral stories; a group of drummers (the tala) provides tempo; dancers embody spirits of land and water. The centerpiece is the binding ritual in which the community recites collective vows for mutual cooperation.

Regional variations: Coastal and highland communities differ in tuning, percussion, and costume. Coastal versions employ shell instruments and bright colors; highland forms favor woodwinds and earth tones.
