Zyklenzählungen, also known as cycle counts, are a method of inventory management. They involve counting a subset of inventory items on a specific day, rather than performing a full physical inventory count of all items. This approach is often used to maintain inventory accuracy throughout the year.

The core principle of cycle counting is to regularly and systematically check inventory quantities. This can be done by selecting items based on various criteria, such as their value (e.g., ABC analysis, where A items are high-value and C items are low-value), frequency of movement, or location within the warehouse. High-value or fast-moving items are typically counted more frequently than low-value or slow-moving items.

The process typically involves trained personnel who physically count the selected items and compare the results to the recorded inventory levels in the system. Any discrepancies found are then investigated to identify the root cause, which could be errors in receiving, shipping, internal transfers, damage, or theft. Once the cause is identified, corrective actions are implemented to prevent future inaccuracies.
