Zenuwfascikels

Zenuwfascikels, also known as nerve fascicles, are bundles of nerve fibers within the peripheral nervous system. Each fascicle is a discrete structural unit that contains multiple axons, which are the long projections of nerve cells that transmit electrical impulses. These axons are surrounded by connective tissue called endoneurium. Within the fascicle, the axons are further grouped and supported by perineurium, a layer of specialized connective tissue that encloses the entire fascicle. This perineurial sheath plays a crucial role in protecting the axons and regulating the passage of substances into and out of the fascicle, forming part of the blood-nerve barrier.

The organization of axons into fascicles is important for the efficient transmission of nerve signals and for maintaining the structural integrity of nerves. Different fascicles within a single nerve may carry different types of information, such as sensory, motor, or autonomic signals, or they may be dedicated to specific regions of the body. The number and size of fascicles can vary depending on the nerve and its function. Damage to a nerve can affect specific fascicles, leading to localized neurological deficits.
