Zanardi

Zanardi is an Italian surname. The best known bearer is Alex Zanardi (born 1966), an Italian former professional racing driver and Paralympic athlete. He progressed from Italian karting to higher levels of competition, racing in Formula One and in the CART series in the United States, where he won the CART championships in 1997 and 1998.

In 2001, Zanardi suffered a severe crash at the Lausitzring which left him with disabling injuries and the loss of his legs, after which he underwent extensive rehabilitation. He later returned to sport by competing in Paralympic cycling, achieving success in international competition, and he has remained involved in motorsports as a driver, commentator, and ambassador.
