Zündapp is a German motorcycle manufacturer that was founded in 1917 by Fritz Graf von Zeppelin, his son, and two other partners. The name Zündapp is a portmanteau of Zünder und Apparatebau, meaning "igniter and apparatus construction." Initially, the company produced ignition devices for the German army during World War I. After the war, Zündapp shifted its focus to manufacturing motorcycles, scooters, and later, small automobiles.
