Their primary goal is to provide awareness without demanding focused attention, allowing users to grasp information peripherally.

These displays often utilize changes in color, light intensity, movement, or sound to communicate data. For instance, a wall-mounted light might shift in color from green to red to indicate the air quality of a room, or a slowly pulsing light could signify network connectivity status. The information conveyed is typically simple and easily interpretable at a glance, intended to be understood intuitively.
