Yhteisösiintumisen, often translated as community spread or community transmission, refers to the transmission of an infectious disease within a community where the source of the infection is unknown or difficult to trace. This contrasts with imported cases, where an individual is infected outside the community and brings the disease in, or contact tracing, where the infected individual is known to have been in contact with a confirmed case.

In the context of an epidemic or pandemic, the identification of community spread signifies that the pathogen is circulating freely among the general population. This makes containment efforts more challenging, as individuals may become infected without having traveled or knowingly interacted with an infected person. Public health responses to community spread often involve widespread testing, contact tracing of identified cases, and implementing public health measures such as social distancing, mask-wearing, and restrictions on gatherings to slow down transmission.
