Yhdistelmälogiikka, in English combinational logic, refers to a type of logic circuit where the output depends solely on the current inputs. There is no memory element involved; the circuit's state at any given moment is entirely determined by the values of the input signals at that same moment. This contrasts with sequential logic, where the output can also depend on past inputs due to the presence of memory elements like flip-flops.

Combinational logic circuits are fundamental building blocks in digital electronics. They are designed to perform specific logical operations based on Boolean algebra. Common examples of combinational logic circuits include logic gates such as AND, OR, and NOT gates, as well as more complex circuits like multiplexers, demultiplexers, encoders, and decoders. These circuits are used in a vast array of applications, from simple switching circuits to the intricate operations within microprocessors.

The design process for combinational logic often involves creating truth tables that define the desired output for every possible combination of inputs. From the truth table, Boolean expressions can be derived and then simplified using Boolean algebra or Karnaugh maps. These simplified expressions are then implemented using logic gates. The speed of a combinational logic circuit is primarily determined by the propagation delay of the logic gates used in its construction, as the output must settle after the inputs change.
