Xykoordinater

Xykoordinater, often referred to as Cartesian coordinates in a two-dimensional plane, are a system used to uniquely identify the position of a point. This system consists of two perpendicular lines, the x-axis and the y-axis, that intersect at a point called the origin. The x-axis is typically horizontal, and the y-axis is vertical.

A point's location is expressed as an ordered pair (x, y), where the first value, 'x', represents the horizontal distance from the origin along the x-axis, and the second value, 'y', represents the vertical distance from the origin along the y-axis. Positive values of x indicate a position to the right of the origin, while negative values indicate a position to the left. Similarly, positive values of y indicate a position above the origin, and negative values indicate a position below.

The plane is divided into four quadrants by the intersecting axes. The upper-right quadrant, where both x and y are positive, is called the first quadrant. The upper-left quadrant, with negative x and positive y, is the second quadrant. The lower-left quadrant, where both x and y are negative, is the third quadrant. Finally, the lower-right quadrant, with positive x and negative y, is the fourth quadrant.
