Xsugárkibocsátás, also known as X-ray emission, refers to the process by which X-rays are produced and released by matter. This phenomenon occurs when electrons within an atom undergo transitions between energy levels, or when high-energy electrons interact with matter. There are several primary mechanisms responsible for X-ray emission.

One significant mechanism is characteristic X-ray emission. This happens when an incoming high-energy particle, such as an electron or another photon, knocks out an inner-shell electron from an atom. The resulting vacancy is then filled by an electron from a higher energy shell. As this electron drops to the lower energy level, it releases the excess energy in the form of a photon with a specific energy, characteristic of the element and the electron shells involved. These characteristic X-rays are unique fingerprints for each element.

Another important process is bremsstrahlung, which translates from German to "braking radiation." This occurs when a charged particle, typically an electron, is decelerated as it passes through the electric field of an atomic nucleus. The loss of kinetic energy is radiated as electromagnetic radiation, which can include X-rays. The energy of the emitted bremsstrahlung X-rays is continuous, ranging from zero up to the initial kinetic energy of the incident particle. This process is widely used in X-ray tubes for medical imaging and industrial applications.

In astronomical contexts, X-ray emission is observed from various celestial objects, including stars, black holes, and galaxies, originating from high-temperature plasmas and energetic particle interactions in space.
