Xohlamoq

Xohlamoq is a verb in Uzbek that means to want or to desire. It expresses a speaker’s volition or wish, often in relation to performing an action or obtaining something. The word is built from the root xoh- meaning desire and the infinitival suffix -lamoq, placing it in the same general class as other -lamoq verbs. The related noun xohish denotes a desire or wish.

In usage, xohlamoq is commonly combined with the infinitive of another verb to indicate what is wanted, or with a noun phrase to specify the object of the desire. For example, men ovqat yemoqni xohlayman means “I want to eat food.” Questions about desire are formed with words like nima xohlaysiz? meaning “What would you like?” and similar constructions.

Conjugation of xohlamoq follows standard Uzbek patterns for -lamoq verbs. In the present tense, forms such as men xohlayman or siz xohlaysiz illustrate the usual person-number endings. Negative forms exist as well (for example, men xohlamayman, he/she does not want). Past and future tenses are formed with the familiar tense endings used with other Uzbek verbs, so the verb can express wishes from the immediate present to the past or future.
