Wywoania

Wywoania is a term used in Polish-speaking computing and programming literature to refer to the act of invoking or calling a subroutine, function, method, or procedure within a program. In Polish, the noun is wywołanie, with the plural wywołania; when written without diacritics the form is wywoania. The term is used primarily in technical documentation and education to describe every instance where control is passed from one part of a program to another by executing a subprogram.

Etymology: Wywoania derives from the verb wywołać, meaning to evoke or to summon, combined with the nominalizing suffix -anie. The concept emphasizes the event of initiating a subprogram’s execution.

Usage: In imperative programming languages, a wywoanie is performed by a function or method call, for example f(x) or obj.method(y). The result of a wywoania may be a value or a side effect. Distinctions include direct versus indirect wywoania (such as passing a function as a callback), static versus dynamic wywoania (binding at compile time versus run time), and synchronous versus asynchronous wywoania.

In documentation and debugging, phrasing such as wywoanie funkcji or wywoania metody is common. The term also appears in discussions of performance (call overhead) and language features (first-class functions, closures) that enable different styles of wywoania.
