Wombwell
Wombwell is a market town and civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, it lies approximately 4 miles southeast of Barnsley town centre and 7 miles northwest of Rotherham. The town is situated on the River Dearne. Wombwell's origins can be traced back to the Domesday Book of 1086, where it was recorded as 'Wimbel'. The town developed significantly during the Industrial Revolution, largely due to the coal mining industry. The Wombwell Main Colliery was once a prominent feature of the local landscape.
The town has a railway station on the Hallam Line, providing services to Sheffield, Leeds, and Manchester.
