Wolframszál

Wolframszál is the Hungarian term for tungsten filament. Tungsten is a chemical element with the symbol W and atomic number 74. It is a rare and hard metal that is known for its extremely high melting point, making it ideal for use in incandescent light bulbs. In these bulbs, an electric current passes through the thin tungsten filament, causing it to heat up and glow, producing light. The filament is enclosed in a glass bulb filled with an inert gas to prevent oxidation and prolong its lifespan.

Historically, tungsten filaments were a crucial component in lighting technology before the advent of more energy-efficient alternatives like LEDs. The development of reliable tungsten filaments was a significant engineering achievement that revolutionized illumination. The high melting point of tungsten, approximately 3422 degrees Celsius (6192 degrees Fahrenheit), is its defining characteristic for this application.
