Wiradhuri
The Wiradjuri people are an Aboriginal Australian group whose traditional country encompasses a large area of central New South Wales. Their name, Wiradjuri, translates to "people of the three rivers," referring to the Macquarie, Lachlan, and Murrumbidgee rivers that flow through their ancestral lands. Historically, they were a semi-nomadic people who lived in harmony with their environment, adapting their lifestyle to the seasonal availability of food and water. Their society was structured around kinship systems and complex ceremonial practices.
The arrival of European settlers in the early 19th century brought significant disruption to Wiradjuri life.
