Weisheitszähne

Weisheitszähne, also known as third molars, are the last teeth to erupt in the mouth, typically appearing between the ages of 17 and 25. They are located at the very back of the upper and lower jaws. The term "wisdom teeth" comes from the fact that they erupt at an age when a person is considered more mature or "wise." Not everyone develops all four wisdom teeth.

In many cases, wisdom teeth do not have enough space to erupt properly in the jaw. This can lead to impaction, where the teeth become trapped beneath the gums or bone, or emerge only partially. Impacted wisdom teeth can cause a variety of problems, including pain, swelling, infection, damage to adjacent teeth, and the formation of cysts. The surgery itself can be straightforward or complex depending on the impaction level. Recovery time varies, but most people experience some discomfort, swelling, and dietary restrictions for a few days to a couple of weeks. Proper oral hygiene is crucial during recovery to prevent complications.
