Weiberfastnacht, also known as Women's Carnival Day, is a traditional celebration in parts of Germany, particularly in the Rhineland region, that marks the Thursday before Ash Wednesday. It is the culmination of the carnival season, which officially begins on November 11th but gains full momentum in the days leading up to Ash Wednesday. The origins of Weiberfastnacht are believed to be rooted in a historical uprising of women against the male authorities in the town of Bonn in 1824.
