In literature, Waverley refers to the 1814 historical novel by Sir Walter Scott, his first novel and the start of what would become a long sequence known as the Waverley Novels. The story follows Edward Waverley during the Jacobite uprising of 1745 in Scotland and northern England, and it helped establish Scott’s fame as well as the genre of historical fiction.
