Waldorf schools, also known as Steiner schools, are a pedagogical movement based on the educational philosophy of Rudolf Steiner. The first Waldorf school was founded in Stuttgart, Germany, in 1919. Today, Waldorf schools are found in over 60 countries worldwide.

The Waldorf curriculum emphasizes the development of the whole child, integrating academic, artistic, and practical learning. It is structured around developmental stages, with different approaches used for young children, elementary school students, and adolescents. Early childhood education focuses on imaginative play and sensory experiences. The elementary years introduce a broader range of subjects through storytelling and artistic expression, including music, painting, and movement. In secondary school, students engage in more abstract thinking and scientific inquiry, alongside continued artistic and practical work.

A key feature of Waldorf education is its holistic approach, aiming to nurture creativity, critical thinking, and social responsibility. Subjects like music, drama, eurythmy (a movement art), and various crafts are considered as important as traditional academic subjects. Foreign languages are typically introduced early. Waldorf schools often delay formal academic instruction, such as reading and writing, until the first grade. Assessment is usually done through detailed narrative reports rather than traditional grades. The schools aim to foster a strong sense of community among students, teachers, and parents.
