Wachstumspfad refers to the trajectory of economic growth over time. It describes how an economy's output, typically measured by Gross Domestic Product (GDP), changes from one period to the next. This path can be influenced by a multitude of factors, including technological advancements, capital accumulation, labor force growth, human capital development, and institutional quality.

Economists often distinguish between potential growth and actual growth. The potential growth path represents the maximum sustainable rate at which an economy can grow without generating inflationary pressures. Actual growth, on the other hand, is the observed rate of growth in GDP, which can fluctuate due to business cycles, shocks, and policy interventions. When actual growth is above the potential growth path, it suggests the economy is operating beyond its sustainable capacity, potentially leading to overheating. Conversely, actual growth below the potential path indicates underutilization of resources and slower-than-desired economic progress.
