WTCC

World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) is the FIA-sanctioned international championship for touring cars. It features production-based touring cars built to FIA regulations and competes on circuits around the world.

WTCC has operated in two major periods. The original World Touring Car Championship ran in the late 1980s as the premier world championship for touring cars, succeeding the European Touring Car Championship. After limited activity, the title was revived in 2005 as the FIA World Touring Car Championship, a regular international series until 2017. The revival used Super 2000 and later TC1-class cars and attracted manufacturers such as BMW, SEAT, Chevrolet, Volvo, and later Citroën and Lada. Races were held on circuits across Europe, Asia, and beyond, typically with a weekend format featuring practice, qualifying, and two races awarding points toward the Drivers' and Manufacturers' Championships.

In 2018 the WTCC was replaced by the FIA World Touring Car Cup (WTCR), which adopted the TCR regulations and continued the world-touring car concept. Notable drivers who achieved success in the WTCC include Andy Priaulx, Yvan Muller, and Rob Huff, among others. The WTCC remains a significant chapter in the history of production-based international racing.
