Key provisions of the WCT include the granting of exclusive rights to authors for the communication of their works to the public by wire or wireless means, including making their works available on demand. It also addresses the protection of computer programs and databases as literary works. Furthermore, the treaty requires contracting parties to provide legal remedies for the circumvention of technological measures used to protect copyrighted works and for the removal or alteration of copyright management information. The WCT seeks to foster a balanced approach, ensuring that technological advancements do not undermine the rights of creators and that adequate access to works is still possible.
