Võõrandumine

Võõrandumine, often translated as alienation, is a concept that describes a state of estrangement or separation. It can refer to a feeling of being disconnected from oneself, others, society, or the products of one's labor. This feeling can manifest in various ways, including a sense of powerlessness, meaninglessness, isolation, and self-estrangement.

The term was notably explored by philosophers like Karl Marx and Jean-Paul Sartre. Marx used võõrandumine to describe the condition of workers in capitalist societies, where they are separated from the fruits of their labor, the creative process, and their fellow workers, leading to a loss of fulfillment. Sartre, in his existentialist philosophy, discussed alienation as a consequence of human freedom and the burden of choice, leading individuals to feel disconnected from their own authentic selves.
