Võrguõrkes

Võrguõrkes, also known as network gourds, refers to a type of netting or mesh crafted from natural fibers, traditionally used for creating or reinforcing structures like hammocks, fishing nets, or bags. The term itself is a combination of "võrk" meaning net or mesh and "õrkes" possibly referring to a coarse or rustic weave. Historically, these nets were made from plant fibers such as hemp, flax, or nettle, which were readily available and processed by hand. The creation process involved skilled knotting techniques to form durable and flexible structures.

The primary function of võrguõrkes was utility, providing essential tools for daily life in rural communities. In Estonia, for instance, such nets were crucial for fishing, a significant source of sustenance. They were also used for carrying goods, creating simple shelters, or as decorative elements.
