Védjegyjog, often translated as trademark law, is a branch of intellectual property law that protects brand names and logos used on goods and services. The primary purpose ofvédjegyjog is to prevent consumer confusion by distinguishing the source of products and services in the marketplace. A trademark can be any sign, design, or expression that identifies specific products or services of a particular source. This can include words, names, symbols, logos, sounds, or even colors.

In Hungary, védjegyjog is governed by specific legislation, primarily the Act XXXIII of 1997 on the Protection of Trademarks and Geographical Indications. Registration of a trademark with the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office (Magyar Szabadalmi Hivatal) grants the owner exclusive rights to use the mark for specific goods and services. This protection typically lasts for ten years and can be renewed indefinitely, provided the mark is used and renewal fees are paid.

Unauthorized use of a registered trademark by another party constitutes infringement. Remedies for infringement can include injunctions to stop the infringing activity, damages for losses incurred, and in some cases, the destruction of infringing goods. The concept of "well-known marks" also exists, providing a higher level of protection even if not formally registered for all classes of goods and services.
