Vårdnadshavaren
Vårdnadshavaren is a Swedish legal term referring to a person who has legal custody of a child. This custody entails the responsibility for the child's upbringing, care, education, and personal development. In Sweden, a child is typically under the care of one or two vårdnadshavare. If the parents are married, they are usually joint vårdnadshavare. If they are not married, the mother is automatically the vårdnadshavare unless otherwise decided by a court or agreement.
The responsibilities of a vårdnadshavare are extensive. They include ensuring the child has a safe environment,
Custody arrangements can be sole or joint. In joint custody, both vårdnadshavare share the rights and responsibilities.
