Vågskalor, a Swedish term roughly translating to "wave scales" or "wave patterns," refers to the visual analysis of wave formations and their characteristics in bodies of water. This observation is crucial in fields such as meteorology, oceanography, and sailing, where understanding wave behavior can provide insights into underlying atmospheric conditions and potential hazards.

The study of vågskalor involves observing several key attributes of waves. These include wave height, which is the vertical distance between the wave crest and trough; wavelength, the horizontal distance between two successive crests or troughs; wave period, the time it takes for two successive crests or troughs to pass a fixed point; and wave direction, the path the wave is traveling.
