These losses are inherent in electrical circuits, particularly those involving switching elements like transistors or diodes. They occur during the transition period when a switching element changes its state, from conducting to non-conducting, or vice-versa.

During this transition, the switching element is neither fully on nor fully off, existing in an intermediate state. In this state, both voltage across and current through the device are non-zero simultaneously, leading to power dissipation in the form of heat. This phenomenon is more pronounced at higher switching frequencies, as the switching element undergoes these transitions more often.
