Väriresoluutio

Väriresoluutio refers to the level of detail or accuracy with which color information can be represented or reproduced. In digital imaging and display technologies, it is often related to the number of bits used to store the color information for each pixel. A higher color resolution means more distinct colors can be displayed, leading to smoother gradients and more realistic images.

Commonly, color resolution is expressed in terms of bits per pixel (bpp). For example, an 8-bit color system can display 256 colors (2^8). A 16-bit system, often called high color, can display 65,536 colors (2^16). True color, which is typically 24-bit (8 bits for red, 8 for green, and 8 for blue), can represent over 16.7 million colors (2^24). This allows for a very wide range of hues and shades, mimicking how the human eye perceives color.

In printing, color resolution can refer to the density of ink dots that can be placed on a surface, often measured in dots per inch (dpi). Higher dpi allows for finer details and sharper images. While digital color resolution deals with the number of colors, print resolution deals with the physical placement of colorant. The interplay between these two types of resolution influences the overall quality of a visual output, whether on screen or in print.
