Color correction is a fundamental step in post-production for various media, including photography, filmmaking, and graphic design.

The primary goals of color correction are twofold. Firstly, it aims to correct inaccuracies in the original recording, such as making white appear white or ensuring that skin tones look natural. This might involve compensating for poor lighting conditions, camera limitations, or incorrect camera settings. Secondly, color correction is used to establish a specific mood or style. For example, a photographer might choose to desaturate colors to create a vintage look or enhance reds and oranges to evoke warmth.

Software applications commonly used for color correction include Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, and Final Cut Pro. These tools offer a wide range of adjustments, allowing for precise manipulation of color values. Color grading, a related but distinct process, builds upon color correction by intentionally applying stylistic color choices to enhance the narrative or emotional impact of a piece. While color correction focuses on fixing and standardizing, color grading is about artistic expression.
