Välittäjähiukkaset

Välittäjähiukkaset, also known as force carrier particles or mediators, are fundamental particles in quantum field theory that mediate the interactions between other particles. They are responsible for the fundamental forces of nature, excluding gravity. These particles are bosons, meaning they have integer spin.

The electromagnetic force is mediated by photons. Photons are massless and travel at the speed of light. They interact with electrically charged particles, causing attraction or repulsion. The strong nuclear force, which binds quarks together to form protons and neutrons, and holds the nucleus of an atom together, is mediated by gluons. Gluons are also massless and carry a "color charge," which is a property analogous to electric charge. The weak nuclear force, responsible for radioactive decay and certain nuclear reactions, is mediated by W and Z bosons. These bosons are massive, which is why the weak force has a very short range.

When two particles interact, they exchange virtual mediator particles. These virtual particles exist only for a very short time, borrowing energy from the vacuum according to the Heisenberg uncertainty principle. The exchange of these virtual particles results in a change in momentum and energy of the interacting particles, which we observe as a force. The properties of the mediator particle, such as its mass and charge, determine the characteristics of the force it mediates, including its strength and range. The Standard Model of particle physics describes three of the four fundamental forces and their associated mediator particles: the electromagnetic, strong, and weak nuclear forces. The gravitational force is hypothesized to be mediated by a particle called the graviton, but this particle has not yet been experimentally observed.
