Väghinder is a term that describes any device, arrangement, or feature placed on a public road with the purpose of hindering, delaying, or guiding the passage of vehicles or pedestrians. The concept covers a broad range of objects and practices, from permanent barriers to temporary measures used in road safety management. Legitimate väghinder are typically installed by authorities, contractors, or property owners with proper authority, and are intended to protect workers, improve traffic safety, or secure restricted areas.

Common examples include traffic cones and temporary barriers used in roadwork zones, guardrails or crash cushions at known hazards, and gates at access-controlled spaces.
