Vremasites

Vremasites are a group of extinct, flightless birds that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, approximately 70 million years ago. They are known from fossils found in North America and Europe. Vremasites are characterized by their large size, robust build, and distinctive beak. They are believed to have been omnivorous, feeding on a variety of plants and small animals.

The name "Vremasites" comes from the Greek words "vremas," meaning "to be in a hurry," and "ites," meaning "belonging to." This name was given to the group because they are thought to have been fast-moving birds, capable of running and swimming as well as flying.

Vremasites are classified within the order Pterosauria, which includes pterosaurs, but they are not closely related to them. Instead, they are more closely related to modern birds. This classification is based on the structure of their bones and the presence of feathers.

Despite their large size and robust build, vremasites are not known to have been predators. Instead, they are thought to have been scavengers, feeding on carrion and other dead animals. This is supported by the presence of sharp teeth in their beak, which were likely used for tearing flesh.

Vremasites went extinct at the end of the Cretaceous period, along with the dinosaurs. The exact cause of their extinction is not known, but it is likely that climate change and the impact of a large asteroid played a role.
