Votesharing

Votesharing is a concept in electoral systems that describes the distribution of seats or representation based on the proportion of votes received by political parties. In systems with votes haring, parties do not automatically win a seat for each individual vote they receive. Instead, their total vote count is used to determine their share of the available seats. This is often achieved through various methods of proportional representation. The goal is to create an assembly or legislature that more closely reflects the overall political preferences of the electorate. Without votes haring, a party could win a majority of seats with a minority of the national vote, as can happen in plurality or first-past-the-post systems. Votesharing mechanisms aim to allocate seats in a way that minimizes wasted votes and ensures that smaller parties have a chance to gain representation if they achieve a certain level of support.
