Voogdemeer

Voogdemeer is a former municipality in the province of North Brabant in the Netherlands. It was located in the northeastern part of the province, near the present-day municipality of Landerd. The area was historically characterized by its agricultural landscape, with small settlements and farms scattered across the polder.

The municipality of Voogdemeer was established in the early 19th century, formed from several smaller hamlets and rural areas. Like many Brabant communities, its economy was primarily based on farming and peat extraction. The name "Voogdemeer" itself suggests a historical connection to a "voogd" (reeve or bailiff) and a "meer" (lake or marsh), indicating a past landscape that might have been influenced by water bodies and local governance.

Over time, demographic and administrative changes led to the eventual dissolution of the Voogdemeer municipality. In 1942, it was merged with other neighboring municipalities to form the new municipality of Schaijk. Later, Schaijk itself became part of the larger municipality of Landerd in 1994. Today, the historical area of Voogdemeer is integrated into the modern administrative structure of Landerd, with its agricultural character largely preserved. There are no remaining administrative entities named Voogdemeer, but the name persists in local geography and historical references.
