Volframelektrodia

Volframelektrodia refers to an electrode made primarily of tungsten. Tungsten is chosen for its exceptionally high melting point, making it ideal for applications involving high temperatures, particularly in welding. Volframelektrodia are most commonly used in Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), also known as TIG welding. In this process, the tungsten electrode serves as a non-consumable electrode that creates the arc necessary to melt the workpiece material. The inert gas shield, typically argon or helium, protects the molten weld pool and the tungsten electrode from atmospheric contamination.

The properties of the tungsten electrode, such as its purity and any added alloying elements, significantly influence the welding arc stability and performance. Common additions include thorium oxide (thoriated), cerium oxide (ceriated), lanthanum oxide (lanthanated), and zirconium oxide (zirconiated), each offering distinct advantages for different types of welding and base metals. The tip of the volframelektrodia is typically ground to a specific shape, such as a pointed or balled end, depending on the welding current and polarity.
