Voitelumenetelmiä refers to various techniques and systems used to apply lubricants to machine parts. The primary goal of lubrication is to reduce friction and wear between moving surfaces, prevent corrosion, and dissipate heat. The choice of method depends on the type of machine, operating conditions, lubricant properties, and accessibility of the parts.

One common method is manual lubrication, where a lubricant, such as oil or grease, is applied directly to the lubricated component using a brush, oil can, or grease gun. This is often suitable for simpler machinery or where automated systems are not cost-effective.

Another category is bath lubrication, where a component is partially or fully immersed in a reservoir of lubricant. The moving parts pick up the lubricant and distribute it to other surfaces. This is often used in gearboxes and bearings.

For more demanding applications, forced lubrication systems are employed. These systems use pumps to deliver lubricant under pressure to specific points, ensuring adequate and consistent lubrication even at high speeds or loads. Splash lubrication is a variation where rotating parts dip into a lubricant reservoir and splash it onto other parts.

Continuous lubrication methods, such as circulating oil systems, are used in large and complex machinery. These systems filter and cool the lubricant before recirculating it, providing continuous protection and efficient heat removal. Greasing systems, both manual and automated, are also widely used, especially for bearings and joints. Automated systems can be programmed to deliver precise amounts of lubricant at set intervals, ensuring optimal lubrication and minimizing maintenance downtime.
