VlaamsBrabant

Vlaams-Brabant, also known in English as Flemish Brabant, is a province of the Flemish Region of Belgium. It lies in the central part of Flanders and surrounds the Brussels-Capital Region. The provincial capital is Leuven, and other notable towns include Halle, Vilvoorde, Aarschot, Diest and Tienen. The province borders several other Flemish provinces as well as the Brussels region.

The province was established in 1995 when the former Province of Brabant was divided into Flemish Brabant and Walloon Brabant as part of Belgium’s federalization. Since then Leuven has served as the administrative and political seat of the province. The official language is Dutch.

Vlaams-Brabant combines urban centers with rural countryside. The western part includes the Pajottenland and the Zenne valley, while the eastern part encompasses the Hageland region. The province hosts KU Leuven, a major university, and supports a diversified economy with services, manufacturing and agriculture. The Pajottenland is known for historical towns and beer traditions, including lambic breweries.

The area is closely connected to Brussels by road and rail, making it a key corridor for commuters and freight. The provincial government works to balance growth with preservation of green spaces and cultural heritage across its municipalities.
