VirB1VirB11
virB1virB11 refers to the gene cluster encoding the VirB1 through VirB11 components of a Type IV secretion system (T4SS) found on some bacterial plasmids, most famously the Ti (tumor-inducing) plasmids of Agrobacterium tumefaciens. This secretion system mediates transfer of DNA and protein effectors across the bacterial membranes and into host cells, plays a central role in plant infection, and serves as a widely studied model of T4SS architecture.
The VirB proteins assemble into a trans-envelope apparatus that spans the inner and outer membranes and, in
Genetic organization and regulation: virB1 through virB11 are often contiguous on Ti plasmids and are induced
Significance: the virB1virB11 locus is central to the mechanism of DNA and protein transfer in conjugation-like
