There is no formal definition, and meanings vary by context. For some, Vinoistas are curious tasters who explore diverse regions, learn about terroir, and follow producer practices such as biodynamics or transparency in labeling. For others, the term is associated with a social media–driven trend emphasizing tasting notes, itineraries, and experimental formats like vertical tastings or winery visits.

Because it is informal, the term can be used loosely or commercially, risking dilution or misinterpretation. Critics argue that it can obscure expertise or gatekeep, while supporters see it as a playful label for engaged, informed consumers.
