Viljellan

Viljellan is a town and municipality in the fictional country of Eldoria, located on the eastern shore of Lake Verdane in the Eldorian Highlands. It serves as the administrative seat of Verdane District and is a regional hub for agriculture, craftsmanship, and tourism.

The town covers about 55 square kilometers and has a temperate climate with mild summers and cool winters. The landscape features rolling hills, mixed forests, and a long lakefront along Verdane. The Vilja River runs through the town, historically powering mills.

Viljellan traces its origins to a 12th-century settlement built around a defensive fortress that controlled trade routes. The fortress and market town evolved into a regional center, with timber, grain, and craft industries shaping growth through the 18th and 19th centuries. The arrival of the railway in the late 1800s accelerated development.

Administratively, Viljellan is governed by a mayor and a council elected for four-year terms. The council manages local services and coordinates with Verdane District authorities on planning and infrastructure.

The economy blends agriculture, forestry, and light manufacturing with services and tourism. The town is connected by regional roads and a railway station with services to Eldoria's capital. A local hospital and clinics serve residents.

Notable sites include Viljellan Cathedral, dating from the 15th century, and the ruins of Verdane Castle overlooking the lake. The Verdane Cultural Festival, held each summer, features traditional music, crafts, and regional cuisine.

As of 2023, Viljellan has about 12,500 residents. The community is predominantly Eldorian-speaking, with minorities speaking regional Ardentish. Education comprises two primary schools and one secondary school, along with a public library.
