Vilhelmina

Vilhelmina is a town located in the province of Lapland in northern Sweden. It is the administrative center of Vilhelmina Municipality. The town is situated on the Ångermanälven river, near the lake Vilhelmina, which gives the town its name.

The area was originally inhabited by the Sami people. Swedish settlement began in the 18th century. Vilhelmina was founded in 1781 by King Gustav III and was named after his wife, Sophia Magdalena of Denmark. The initial settlement was focused on agriculture and forestry.
