Viittaamiskehyksiä, often translated as "frames of reference," are fundamental concepts in physics and mathematics. They describe the perspective from which an observer or a system measures motion, position, and other physical quantities. In essence, a viittaamiskehys is a coordinate system and a clock, allowing for the consistent description of events.

There are two primary categories of viittaamiskehyksiä: inertial and non-inertial. An inertial viittaamiskehys is one that is not accelerating. In such a frame, Newton's first law of motion, the law of inertia, holds true: an object at rest will stay at rest, and an object in motion will continue in motion with constant velocity unless acted upon by a net force. While physics laws are independent of the chosen inertial frame (Galilean relativity in classical mechanics, Lorentz invariance in special relativity), the mathematical formulation of these laws can differ significantly between inertial and non-inertial frames. Understanding viittaamiskehyksiä is crucial for analyzing motion and forces accurately across various scientific disciplines.
